Selecting Hardware
When choosing it many people make their choices for purely decorative reasons. The most popular hardware to replace is the handle. Many people also need to make changes to their pocket door hardware. While the options are similar, selecting pocket door hardware can actually be more complicated than selecting it. You will be surprised at the amount of choices you have when it comes time to purchase new hardware for your sliding doors. The hardware that you choose will have a big impact on the successful installation of your new sliding doors.
Many times pocket doors will jump their tracks as they are mounted onto noisy and clunky steel rollers. The good news is that old pocket door hardware can be replaced with new models made from nylon for a smooth and quite slide. There are also models which utilize ball bearing rollers with double axel mounts. While most pocket door hardware is only designed to handle doors weighing up to 75 pounds some of the newer models of pocket door hardware have the ability to hold solid hardwood doors which often weight up to 175 pounds.
It is often simpler to select hardware for your sliding door than it is for your pocket door. Most sliding doors will come with inexpensive hard plastic hardware. For many this is fine. Others, however, will prefer to replace this with slightly more expensive sturdy metal hardware. The choices in sliding door handles are almost endless, with some people even going so far as to install door handles made from precious metals like gold. You will have several options when it comes to the design of your sliding door hardware as well. Sliding doors come in a wide variety and the type of sliding door you choose will help to determine what type you purchase.
